All right, I may have officially lost my mind...
For those of you who don't know me; I'm a stay-at-home mom. I've been married to my husband, Rick, for 13 years. When the kids were small, I holed up in my house. As they started school, I eventually started venturing out into the big, bright world. A few short years later...and here I am! I serve as PTA President at a local elementary school. I also, serve on the schools Building Level Team and the District Parent Liason Network. As if that doesn't keep my busy enough, I have recently started school. I am enrolled in the Ministry Preparation Program at Nazarene Bible College. I feel God calls us to be ministers to others, so I am preparing myself for whatever path He takes me on.
The longer I'm around all the wonderful children in our community, the more I realize how much they need our help. Our world is changing, and our children are getting placed on the 'back burner'. With all the other world problems, our kids are often forgotten. It takes such a small amount of time to change a child's life, attitiude, and outlook. A word, encouragement, a safe place to go, a few minutes of help; all of these can touch a child's life.
The health, safety, and well-being of our community children--affects ALL of us! Soon, these children will be our community church leaders, business owners, and government officials. We must take the time to see that they are being loved, educated, and cared for.
That is why I did something crazy. I stepped completely outside of my box, my comfort zone is far behind me--I joined a pageant. I am officially Mrs. Ponca City International 2011. This pageant supports married women, their accomplishments, community service, and family values. I hope that by donning a crown, I can get peoples attention, and once I do that--I can tell them how our children are falling behind in education, our divorce rates are up, our economy is hurt, and our children are suffering.
Please join me by making a decision today to help our kids. PTA, YMCA, local Library, shelters; these are all a good place to start.
If we touch the heart of a child, we can change the world!
Thanks, and wish me luck, I'm gonna need it :)
