What great kids!

I had such a wonderful time last week with the kids at one of our local Elementary Schools.  I helped with the reading rewards store, and Third grade brought their books to show me what they are currently reading.

Second Grade was also excited to see me in the library!

In the afternoon, I traveled down the hall to Pre-Kindergarten--read a book and talked about being a good friend!

Each of these children are so special, and I had a great day with them.  Encourage reading with the children around you!  Good reading habits affect every aspect of your life and will help these children succeed in whatever they choose to do in life!

Have you asked the child near you what book they have been reading lately?

A gift with meaning this year

Is your holiday shopping done?  Did you mail the letters to Santa?  Did you manage to find the best things from your child's list this year?  Not sure what to buy?

What about a goat?  That's right--a goat!  Many of us never hesitate to buy our children more than they need at Christmas time, but an ocean away there is a group of people without food or incomes.  They don't want the lastest toy or gadget.  They aren't even asking for money.  What would benefit them most is a goat or a pair of chickens.  By providing them with chickens or a goat we are giving them a chance to earn a steady living in their community.  Also, eggs or milk can help a malnourished child become stronger.  Along with these wonderful gifts they will also receive the message of Jesus this Christmas season--the best gift of all!

Think of what you giving others this year.  Think of how much you have already spent on people who love you and don't necessarily need those gifts.  Now think about those poor families that could so desperately use your help.  For such a small amount of money and a quick click of a button you can change their entire life!!  Please, show your children the real meaning of Christmas this year.

May the season bring you joy!

What?Why?When?

What is Mrs. International?
A FAMILY AFFAIR... The International Pageant system has been developed to promote today's married women, their accomplishments, and commitment to family and marriage. Around the world women are finding this system to be the opportunity to work with their husband and family to become positive role models.
From Mrs. International Website  http://www.mrsinternational.com/

Why would I enter?
The Mrs. International Pageant showcases married women-their family values, and their community service.  Each woman chooses a platform--an issue/cause she is passionate about--and spends the year promoting it in her community.

If I need to wear a sparkly crown to get people to listen...so be it!  Plus, every girl loves sparkles!  I'm going to spend the next year talking about our community children and ways we can help them become better leaders!

When?
My appearances will begin now, and I'm super excited!  The pageant for Mrs. Oklahoma International is in March.  The winner will advance to the Mrs. International Pageant in Chicago.

I've never been a pageant-girl.  I'm more of a stay-at-home, wear sweats girl--but hey, whether I win or lose, it will be a chance for me to grow and become a better person (and maybe take a few people with me).  That's the real prize!

Plus, if I make it across the stage without fainting, I will call it a success!
